Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins or ‘chronic venous insufficiency’ are caused by improper functioning of the leg vein. These veins that reflux are said to be incompetent or to have incompetent valves allowing blood to collect in the lower vessels of the legs. This results in varicose veins, swelling or skin colour changes on the affected leg. If the condition progresses, leg ulcers can form.

More than ten years ago, vein stripping was the gold standard therapy in the surgical treatment of varicose veins. This procedure however presents some disadvantages such as extremely painful bruising, as well as risks associated with general anaesthesia and infection. In addition, the risk of failure or recurrence is high.

Innovative laser treatments allow for the complete elimination of varicose veins without general anaesthesia, large incisions or significant downtime. During the procedure, a laser fibre is passed through a thin tube (catheter) into the vein, where the resultant heat generated closes the vein. In comparison to the stripping technique, laser treatment means less trauma, fewer side effects and no scars.

The Endolaser 1500nm can be used to eliminate varicose veins. It offers fast recovery times and excellent clinical and aesthetic outcomes.
