Rosacea

Rosacea

Rosacea is non-contagious, chronic skin inflammation most usually affecting the face. It results from the enlargement of capillaries near the skin’s surface, giving the face a ‘flushed’ look. While rosacea may initially present as a short-term ‘flushing’ which passes quickly, permanently enlarged capillaries usually develop over time, leading to a permanent redness exacerbated by heat, exercise, alcohol, hot drinks and spicy food.

Other symptoms include bumps (papules) or pimples (pustules) which appear around the affected area as seen in acne rosacea.

Lasers have quickly become the gold standard for treatment of Rosacea with many patients finally seeing results following failed topical therapies and medications.

The application of light based energy to the body’s tiny capillaries results in the closure and destruction of the capillary, while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.

Vascular lasers are calibrated to those particular wavelengths of light most readily absorbed by oxyhaemoglobin. Some of the wavelengths used for Rosacea include 532nm, 577nm, 1064nm and IPL broad band light.

Laser platforms such as the Bios Superbium and QuadroStar Pro Yellow can effectively reduce symptoms of this painful and embarrassing condition.

The Pro Yellow has a long history in the market proving its role in the aesthetic practice as the perfectly utilized vascular desktop device. Able to treat even the most difficult cases of Rosacea, treatment options include a scanner for deeper background vessels as well as a hand-held tracer to specifically spot-treat lesions.
