Skin pigmentation is result of irregular production and deposition of melanin by the melanocytes. Melanocytes are cells that produce pigments. The number of melanocytes present in skin determines the skin color. Production of melanin is dependent on UV or sun exposure, and is a natural protective mechanism of the skin.
Superficial Pigmentation: describes an area of pigmentation that occurs in the epidermis. Types of superficial pigmentation: Lentigo (age spots, sun spots and freckles) and Nevus of Ota/Ita.

Gemini, Medlite C6 / Revlite and Varilite and are best for treating Superficial Pigmentation.

Deep Pigmentation: Deep pigmentation describes an area of pigmentation that occurs in the dermis. Removal of dermal pigmentation requires destruction of melanocyte cells using a Q-switched laser. Q Switched lasers releasing infra-red/red or green light are typically used. Types of dermal pigmentation include: birth marks, café-au-lait macules and naevus spilus.

Medlite C6 / Revlite is best to treat deep pigmentation.

Melasma: (also known as chloasma or the mask of pregnancy when present in pregnant women) is a tan or dark facial skin discoloration. Melasma is thought to be the stimulation of melanocytes or pigment-producing cells by the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone to produce more melanin pigments when the skin is exposed to sun. Women with a light brown skin type who are living in regions with intense sun exposure are particularly susceptible to developing this condition. The symptoms of melasma are dark, irregular patches commonly found on the upper cheek, nose, lips, upper lip, and forehead. These patches often develop gradually over time.

Medlite C6 / Revlite is best to treat Melasma.
