Vascular – Distinct Vessels

Gemini, Aura, Lyra, Varilite and Diolite  lasers are the best for treating distinct vessels.

Distinct facial vessels could include spider angioma, cherry angiomas, facial telangiectases, hemangiomas, pyogenic granulomas, kasposi sarcoma, venous lake.

Spider Angioma: (also known as a nevus araneus, spider nevus, or vascular spider) is a type of angioma found slightly below the skin's surface, often containing a central red spot and reddish extensions which radiate outwards like a spider's web. They are common and benign, present in around 10-15% of healthy adults and young children.

Cherry Angioma: are small, bright red to purple colored, papular lesions that are usually found on the trunk and proximal extremities. Onset may be early adult, becoming more common with age.

Facial Telangiectases: are small blood vessels that are located under the surface of the skin. The vessels may appear red, purple or blue.  The most common places these are seen are the face, upper chest, and neck.

Hemangiomas: is an abnormal build up of blood vessels in the skin or internal organs. It is also described as a congenital benign skin lesion consisting of dense, usually elevated masses of dilated blood vessels. In most cases, hemangiomas will disappear over time. They are formed either during gestation or appear during the first few weeks of life and may present as a birthmark. Hemangiomas occur in approximately ten percent of Caucasians, and are less prevalent in other races. Hemangiomas can be vivid superficial lesions, known as capillary hemangiomas (often referred to as "Strawberry Marks"), or they can be deep bluish swelling, known as cavernous hemangiomas.

Pyogenic granuloma: is a relatively common skin growth that presents as a shiny red mass. The surface has a raspberry-like or raw minced meat appearance. Although they are benign (non-cancerous), pyogenic granulomas can cause problems of discomfort and profuse bleeding

Venous Lakes: are a collection of dilated lake-like venules in the upper dermis that are flat or slightly raised. These lesions are soft, dark blue to purple in color, average 2-10 mm in diameter and may bleed with trauma. They are commonly seen on the lips or ears of the elderly.

Vascular – Non Distinct Vessels

Gemini and Aura  Lasers are best for treating non-distinct vessels.

Non-Distinct facial vessels could include vascular malformations (port wine stains), Poikiloderma of Civatte and Rosacea.

Port Wine Stains: are vascular birthmarks that range in color from pale pink to dark purple. Primarily these are located on the face and neck, also may cover the arms, legs and trunk usually unilaterally. The reported incidence is 0.3%. The lesion is flat initially, but adults in the third decade of life may experience the development of modularity. Response of treatment varies with color, maturity, depth and nodularity of the lesion.

Poikiloderma of Civatte: is a skin disorder characterized by telangiectasia associated with atrophic changes of the skin, as well as irregularity of pigmentation. Commonly found on the upper chest and lateral neck, excluding the submental area, it can be caused by chronic sun exposure and use of perfumes or colognes in this area.

Rosacea is a chronic reddening of the mid face often associated with telangiectasia, acute episodes of edema, papules and pustules (acne rosacea).
